The year’s best and worst performances from the best and the worst songs to have ever appeared on American music awards programmes.
The nominations are the result of an open call for nominations that has seen music festivals, radio stations, streaming services, record labels, online retailers and artists all nominate their own songs.
The BBC Music Awards is the biggest music event in the world and one of the most prestigious awards in the music industry.
The show was also broadcast on BBC One and the BBC World Service.
The awards, which have attracted thousands of fans to the capital since their inception in 1993, have now been nominated for the 50th time.
The best music of the year for 2018 will be announced at the end of September.
For the year, the winners were revealed on Thursday.

The winners were selected from the following categories:The nominees were nominated by an advisory committee of music industry experts, including songwriters, composers, lyricists, lyricist agents and music industry executives.
The award was presented by producer and producer-in-residence Paul Thomas Anderson at a ceremony in New York.
“I’m very proud of the work of the advisory committee, which has done an incredible job of identifying the best songs of the past five years and I’m thrilled to have received the 2017 nomination for best American music.”
The award recognises the music of all genres, across all genres and across all eras.

In addition to the best music, the ceremony also recognised the top three artists of the next three years, the year’s biggest releases and the top 10 songs of 2017.
